Meet Michael D'Costa - NHP's Graduate Support Engineer.
Q. How long have you been with NHP?
A. 19 months.
Q. What did you study at University?
A. Bachelor of Engineering - Electrical and Electronics, Victoria University.
Q. Why did you choose a career with NHP?
A. Understanding the experiences I can gain within a business was of the utmost importance to me when I was making a decision on a career within NHP. I chose NHP because they have many opportunities to gain knowledge in my field and in all aspects of the business. NHP has a wide range of products, all which are directly related to the electrical industry. But my final decision was made when I met the team; it was like one big family.
Q. What’s your overall impression of NHP and the graduate role?
A. The company itself is quite diverse with its large range of products that they have on offer and the graduate role reflects that diversity as well. Not only are you exposed to your field directly by incorporating all the products, but you are exposed to all areas of the business including marketing, manufacturing, sales, projects, estimating, inventory, etc. This is a great experience for any graduate to undertake.
Q. What does your work involve?
A. There are many aspects to my role. The primary aspect is to support the products in my department and the product managers. While doing this I’ve become involved with many other aspects including on-site commissioning, design of marketing material, design solutions for customers, conducting training sessions internally and externally, supporting the sales team with trade nights and of course travelling the country making sure the team are happy with my products.
Q. Describe your graduate learning experience at NHP.
A. I was involved in the first Graduate rotation program at NHP. Graduates were rotated through all parts of the business to gain experience and identify potential areas they may like to pursue in the future. This made the graduate rotation an invaluable experience. I now currently work in the Energy Management department. By learning about the other departments and their products, it has helped to design energy efficient solutions for our customers.
Q. What is the best thing about working at NHP?
A. The people. It sounds a little lame, but the people make NHP a great place to work.
Q. What would you say to others contemplating a graduate role at NHP?
A. If you’re looking for a career that will teach you all about the products in the industry and the industry itself, then a graduate role through NHP is your best opportunity. You will learn invaluable information that you’ll remember throughout your career and all with the support of the NHP team. All you have to do is apply.
